Medical grade ozone now offers an alternative to treating herniated and prolapsed discs. Ozone is naturally found in the atmosphere and is known to be a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial agent. The Ozonosan Boardcase generates a gaseous mixture of ozone and oxygen. These specific concentrations are regulated by the inernal photsensors built within the device. A safe and therapeutic mix of oxygen and ozone is then injected directly into the herniated disc.
How does it work?
The aim of this rather simple procedure is to eliminate the biochemical factors that mediate the pain response caused by herniated discs and leakage from the nucleus. The injection of O3-O2 inside the disc causes the toxic agents to be neutralised and consequentially reduces the inflammation and irritation at the nerve root. Furthermore, O3-O2 breaks down the hydrogen bonds found within the disc composition (80% water) which affects the production of proteoglycans. The result is a ‘dehydrated’ disc that shrinks in volume easing the internal homeostatic pressure at the source of pain, the nerve root. It is an outpatient treatment with no adverse side effects and many benefits.
